Book Review: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?

This was exactly the fluffy, funny, light-hearted kind of literary hug I needed after sobbing my way through Amanda Lindhout’s memoir of 460 days as a hostage. It was also the perfect audiobook experience as the narrator was Mindy herself! Her squeaky child-like voice effortlessly pulled me out of “the world is a cesspool” territory and back into the “hey don’t put me on that one-way rocket to Mars just yet” zone. Thanks Mindy! Things about this book that made me smile: 1. Like myself, Mindy likes to make lists. Lots and lots of seemingly pointless lists. 2. This book confirms that I am not the only person on the planet who just does not want to learn how to play frisbee-related sports. Ever. 3. Mindy is totes cool with making fun of herself, and I think this is a great quality. Why wait for someone to call you out as acting like an idiot when you can blow the whistle first. 4. Her list of top comedy moments was Will Ferrel heavy and perfect (I’m in a glass case of emotion!) 5. This quote: “If I’m at a party where I’m not enjoying myself, I will put some cookies in my jacket pocket and leave without saying good-bye.” <—Me 6. Mindy is an intelligent and cleverly funny superwoman all up in the comedy scene and I have to admire her for that. <3<3<3
