Book Haul #6 – I May Have a Problem

Once a year Salt Spring Island has a giant book sale to fund raise for their literacy group. This is the first year I even knew it existed (it’s the 8th annual) and a friend asked me to go with her. As you may have guessed from the photo, I made out like a bandit.

There were over 15,000 books all sorted into categories and all priced at $1 or $2. They had a station with empty boxes for the avid buyer and I filled two… it was a surreal experience to be able to just grab all the books I wanted and not have to spend more than $75. I ended up with over 50!

^ Perhaps the best score I’ve ever got my hands on is this paperback copy of Survivor by Octavia Butler in stellar condition – this book has been out of print since the early 80’s when Octavia announced that she hated it, haha. This is a Signet first edition from 1979. I have one copy of this version already, a really trashed one I bought for $40. This one was just ONE DOLLAR. There are currently only 2 for sale on eBay, both asking $80. I’ve already squeezed it onto my “Octavia Shelf”

^ Just the two of us filled the trunk of the car. Clearly we have a problem.

  1. OMG!!! That’s super awesome you found that first edition Octavia book. I have never read any of her stuff, but I feel your elation. ha. I’ve been looking for a first edition of the first Nancy Drew book for years.
