Book Haul #7

Yes, that’s right. Hot on the heels of my mass hoarding of 51 new books, I just brought home 12 more. I’M BOOK CRAZY.

A group of friends on the island had organized a book swap taking place a mere 4 days after our excursion to Salt Spring. It was a week of book avalanches! I’ve never been so happy, lol. For this swap I purged a bags worth of books from my collection that I didn’t want to keep anymore, including several doubles (or triples ha) one being a book I grabbed at the Salt Spring sale and put on my shelf only to realize I already had it (sign you are an obsessive book hoarder #1).

Books I brought home!

A Moving Target – William Golding

Kushiel’s Chosen – Jacqueline Carey

Fast Food Nation – Eric Schlosser (I’ve already read this. Sign you are a book hoarder #2)

Dracula – Bram Stoker

Briefing for a Descent into Hell – Doris Lessing

After the Quake – Haruki Murakami

Love in the Time of Cholera – Gabriel Garcia Marquez (I also brought this home from the book sale, but I liked this edition better. Sign you are a book hoarder #3)

Frankenstein – Marry Shelley (I’ve also already read this and have a copy with a sweet 80’s cover)

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn – Mark Twain

Gravity’s Rainbow – Thomas Pynchon

Invisible Monsters – Chuck Palahniuk

The Mill on the Floss – George Eliot

We Were the Mulvaneys – Joyce Carol Oates

SOOO I have lots of books to read now, and I am seriously wondering if I can challenge myself to not buy any books next year. Books are one of the only things I buy without guilt… it feels like it’s not expensive to buy a used book for $7, then occasionally splurge on a new release for $25. Then all of a sudden I use the financial planner app on my phone and it says I spent $150 on books LAST MONTH. How do I do this? Why do I not utilize the library? I think I just want to be my own library. But it’s time to reign it in. So, NO BOOK PURCHASES IN 2015. Can I do it? I’m panicking already.

Things I can do to acquire books in 2015:

Book swaps. They are free and also mean removing some of my existing books, win win

Go to the library for book club selections, or failing that buy a used copy of ONLY the essentials – Gabriola Book Club being my only in person book club and priority #1

Accept book gifts or copies passed on from someone else

Things I can’t do to acquire books in 2015:

Find a book I want on Amazon then fill the cart with extras to reach the limit for free shipping. So dangerous.

Buy anything NEW from Amazon… only the used super cheap deals. 1 cent would be ideal.

Really, I shouldn’t buy anything from Amazon.

Let’s see if I can do it!! I would really love to just plow through all the books I have that I haven’t read yet. There are some good ones in there! Wish me luck.
