February is Black History Month

It’s February already, which means it is Black History Month in Canada and the USA. It’s weird to try to pack awareness and celebration of an entire race into just one month (does this mean than the rest of the year is White History Month? Also, why did we pick the year’s shortest month to celebrate African Americans?) BUT this year is going to be a year I push myself to read a more racially diverse selection of authors, and so for the entire month of February I am only going to read books by Black authors. I’ve got a pretty good queue set up already, but if anyone has any suggestions please leave them in the comments! So far I’ve finished two.

Read list (Edited to include all books completed in February):

1. Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
2. Ghana Must Go by Taiye Selasi
3. Things Fall Apart – Chinua Achebe
4. The Killing Moon – N. K. Jemisin
5. Boy, Snow, Bird – Helen Oyeyemi
6. The Shadowed Sun – N. K. Jemisin
7. Ruby – Cynthia Bond
8. The Paul Laurence Dunbar Reader – Paul Laurence Dunbar
