Jumping on the Juice Bandwagon

We got a juicer! Like, a proper, sturdy, powerful juicer. Squeee! This has been a year of turning over new leaves… I’ve been determined to get myself out of a funk and practice better self care, and to also get in better control of my finances. Well, money incoming can be used to pay down debts (I call it throwing green into the black hole) but a little incentive for yourself is a good motivator too. I bought this juicer to match our Breville coffee machine and kettle, both of which are really really nice machines that look great and work incredibly well. I’m quite happy about this juicer as I had suggested to J that we get one a while ago; I had used Visa points to get a gift card to the Bay and we were looking through the kitchen gadgets to see what we wanted to spend the money on. We already have a lot of kitchen appliances, all the ones we really need, at least, but I was drawn to a juicer because I was interested in making juice and smoothies weren’t quite the same. J literally made a face like I had kicked a kitten when I pointed it out on the shelf. Instead we settled on a deep fryer (not the same thing at all haha). Imagine my surprise when J suggested we look into juicing and get our own juicer! We’ve both been making big changes this year šŸ™‚

The first juice I whipped up used 2 gala apples, 3 carrots, 2 handfuls of spinach, a small piece of ginger, juice from 1 lemon, and a spoonful of turmeric. This machine is soooo great! I bought a cheap juicer once and the pulp that it spat out was so sloppy and moist it’s a wonder I even ended up with juice at all. Not with this baby; all the pulp is dry and pretty minimal actually, given everything I feed into the machine. And the chickens love it, so that’s an easy way to ensure it doesn’t go to waste.

I made some other really nice blends yesterday:

1/2 cucumber, 4 gala apples, 1 mango, 3 small beets

3 sticks celery, 4 gala apples, 1 sprig mint, 1 pineapple, 1 lemon

1 pound of strawberries, 1 cucumber, 1 lemon, 2 sprigs of mint

My favourite was the pineapple for sure, but they were all good! I love the colouring of the beet juice. So pretty.

  1. Looks like you did a great job. Mine all came out a weird color but tasted OK. Congratulations on your new leaves

  2. Interesting combinations, I especially like the one with strawberries and mint. I wish you a lot of fun with your juicer šŸ™‚
