Top 10 Tuesday: Girls

10_24_2016_45

I just picked up three new books and by total coincidence the titles all had the word ‘girl’ in them (Rat Girl, Geek Girls, and 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl). This inspired me to look at all the titles on my shelf that had ‘girl’ in the title… and there were a shocking number of them, I couldn’t even trim it down to 10 (this is becoming a theme for me.)

So here is a list of 20 books featuring the word ‘girl’ that I strongly recommend you read as they are all fabulous (yes, just 20, I didn’t even include all the ones I had. This is the cream of the crop!):

  1. Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson
  2. Chelsea Girls by Eileen Myles
  3. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
  4. Odd Girls and Twilight Lovers by Lillian Faderman
  5. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
  6. Girls to the Front by Sara Marcus
  7. Anatomy of a Girl Gang by Ashley Little
  8. The Girl with No Name by Marina Chapman
  9. House Girl by Tara Conklin
  10. Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham
  11. Where the Girls are by Susan J. Douglas
  12. Dancing Girls by Margaret Atwood
  13. 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl by Mona Awad
  14. Rat Girl by Kristin Hersh
  15. The Secret Loves of Geek Girls edited by Hope Nicholson
  16. Girls will be Girls by Emer O’Toole
  17. Girls & Sex by Peggy Orenstein
  18. The Underground Girls of Kabul by Jenny Nordberg
  19. Whipping Girl by Julia Serano
  20. The Girl Who Was Saturday Night by Heather O’Neill

Bonus: 5 books that I’ve already featured in Top Ten Tuesday that have ‘girl’ in the title:

  1. Girl in the Woods by Aspen Matis
  2. The Icarus Girl by Helen Oyeyemi
  3. The Girl in the Road by Monica Byrne
  4. Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen
  5. Brown Girl in the Ring by Nalo Hopkinson
