I just picked up three new books and by total coincidence the titles all had the word ‘girl’ in them (Rat Girl, Geek Girls, and 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl). This inspired me to look at all the titles on my shelf that had ‘girl’ in the title… and there were a shocking number of them, I couldn’t even trim it down to 10 (this is becoming a theme for me.)
So here is a list of 20 books featuring the word ‘girl’ that I strongly recommend you read as they are all fabulous (yes, just 20, I didn’t even include all the ones I had. This is the cream of the crop!):
- Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson
- Chelsea Girls by Eileen Myles
- Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
- Odd Girls and Twilight Lovers by Lillian Faderman
- The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
- Girls to the Front by Sara Marcus
- Anatomy of a Girl Gang by Ashley Little
- The Girl with No Name by Marina Chapman
