Ok, so self-help books are kind of corny, yah? But lately I’ve found myself wanting to expand my reading horizons a bit and try to learn some new techniques for dealing with the level of stress I am currently carrying (99% due to work). This stack covers a few different things including anxiety, death, and stress in general. Cheryl Strayed and Helen McDonald both wrote memoirs of how they processed the death of a parent. Women Who Run with the Wolves encourages women to reclaim their power, creativity and strength. Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl is part memoir describing Frankl’s experience during the holocaust, and part explanation of his creating “logotherapy”. It is one of the most helpful books I have ever read. Take a look to see if anything here might be up your alley!
- When the Body Says No by Gabor Mate M.D.
- All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks
- When Panic Attacks by David D. Burns M.D.
- Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl
- H is for Hawk by Helen McDonald
- Mindfulness by Mark Williams and Danny Penman
- Sane New World by Ruby Wax
- Wild by Cheryl Strayed
- Spook by Mary Roach
- Monkey Mind by Daniel Smith
- Women Who Run with Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes Ph. D
I need all of these books in my life.
The full title is When Panic Attacks: A new drug-free therapy to beat chronic shyness, anxiety and phobias. It covers a pretty huge range of stuff! Definitely helpful!
Awesome π might check it out
I love how alarmist the title is ” When panic ATTACKS” dun dun dun haha
Yes! So good.
Does 3. cover anxiety in general or just panic attacks specifically?
Ha oops I replied to you above π
I enjoy self-help books from time to time, but I must say that I’ve never fully really read one from cover to cover – usually I pick and choose the sections that I’m interested in!
Wild is on my TBR, though I’ve never considered it to be a self-help book and more a memoir. Have you read that one and did you like it? I loved Cheryl Strayed’s Tiny Beautiful Things. π
Those corny books helped me change my whole mindset, just like anything else they work if applied. “Magic of thinking big ” check it out

What a great list! Thanks for sharing. I would also add: “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle, which, at least for me, gave me a very new perspective on life.
