It’s Tuesday again! This week I took a look at fiction with a young female protagonist. I really wanted to add Lullabies for Little Criminals by Heather O’Neill to the list as well, but I can’t find my copy :((( Tragedy! So it’s not in the picture but I also definitely recommend it. These books are all a coming of age story about a young woman, and I really connected with the characters. I Capture the Castle was an instant favourite, and Tell the Wolves I’m Home was really quite moving. And of course the Harper Lee classic To Kill a Mockingbird! I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Scout.
- Chocolates for Breakfast by Pamela Moore
- Swamplandia! by Karen Russel
- Matilda by Roald Dahl
- Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt
- To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
- A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
- I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith
- Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
- Bastard out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison
- Pretty Little Dirty by Amanda Boyden
I recently saw Matilda the Musical and was reminded of what a great story it is!
That sounds amazing!!!
I introduced my niece to Matilda a few months ago and now we watch it every single time she comes to my house. It makes me happy that she loves it as much as I did. Can’t wait to give her the book when she learns to read. 🙂 I love several of the other books on your list too, but I Capture the Castle is definitely my favorite.
I capture the castle is soooo great. I love that you and your niece watch it together!! Matilda is a wonderful story.
I love “Lullabies for Little Criminals” I was so lucky to have the chance to meet the author twice. I’m definitely going to check out some of these novels. Thanks
Lucky! I really liked The Girl who was Saturday Night as well 😊
