The third and final workshop I attended for the 2017 Gabriola Isle of the Arts Festival was an introduction to screen printing. I’ve done a bit of silkscreening in the past, mostly just band patches and some fabric art projects, but I wanted a refresher and some tips because it’s been a while since I’ve done any printing. The workshop took place in the instructor’s studio (check out Catherine’s work here!) and I learned a bunch of new stuff to make the process easier.
A tutorial is in the works, but in the meantime check out what we did in the workshop; I sent a design in ahead of time (using the worm ouroboros design from my tarot deck) and Catherine burned a 11×14 screen for each of us before the class began. For the few hours we were there, we got to experiment with different colours and types of ink which was really fun! Here are some shots of the burned screen, my test prints, and of the heat gun setting the ink.
