The Week in Books #30

QUARANTINE READING! It has been a while since a book update… the pre-pandemic days of January! Feels like 10 years ago but it has only been 8 weeks hahaha. I really want to know what everyone is reading during all this time at home 🏡 I’ve burned through a good number of books on my TBR pile, but I know I can do better because I’m still spending a record number of daily hours on my phone. I’d like to set a better example for Mavis so I’m picking up my books more often so she can get interested in reading too.

This was my TBR pile on January 15th. Seven checked off so far.

Demi-Gods – Robertson, Eliza
Stay with Me – Adebayo, Ayobami
The Lost Girls of Camp Forevermore – Fu, Kim
New Boy – Chevalier, Tracy
The Water Cure – Mackintosh, Sophie
Everything I Never Told You – Ng, Celeste
The Farm – Ramos, Joanne
Queenie – Carty-Williams, Candice
The Power – Alderman, Naomi
F*cked: Being Sexually Explorative and Self-Confident in a World That’s Screwed – Fisher, Corinne
Push – Sapphire

That’s a bit of a stack to go through review-wise, but stand outs include New Boy (a retelling of Shakespeare’s Othello set on a playground in the 70’s) and Everything I Never Told You (the story of a Chinese-American family following the death of their daughter Lydia). They were all enjoyable though!

Next up is this collection of short stories. What’s next on your quarantine reading list?
